SUMMARY:Constitution Day Event
DESCRIPTION:“Renewing Our American Commitment to Freedom of Speech”\nProfessor Andy Olree, J.D.\nThomas Goode Jones School of Law\nFaulkner University\nEvent is free and refreshments will be available.\n12:30 – 1:30 p.m. | 109 Goodwyn Hall\nSynopsis: “Americans today, as in the past, widely support the Constitutional right to freedom of speech, at least when it is presented as an abstract principle. However, the right to freedom of speech, and the values undergirding it, are under attack today from both the political right and the political left. This is dangerous, because constitutional protections will only last as long as they are widely understood and affirmed by the American people. Constitution Day ought to be an occasion to celebrate and reaffirm our American constitutional commitment to freedom of speech, even when we disagree with the form the speech takes or the message it conveys.”\nPresented by Political Science and Public Administration\n
