AUM ‘Paws for a Cause’ teams up with Montgomery Humane Society
AUM’s “Paws for a Cause” is partnering with the Montgomery Humane Society to raise awareness about animal welfare issues and volunteer opportunities. An information table will be available on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Goodwyn Hall Breezeway to launch the new campaign.
“Our specific mission is to spread awareness about shelter services, what’s offered, and their importance,” said AUM student Seth Murdick with Paws for A Cause. “We’re hoping to get a few volunteers or possible adoptions during the event.”
The event will highlight important issues such as the impact of stray cats on wildlife populations, the mistreatment of animals, the importance of shelters, adoption opportunities, and ways students, faculty and staff can volunteer with the Montgomery Humane Society. A major focus will be efforts to delay and suspend the use of euthanasia for adoptable animals.
“My goal is to not have to euthanize adoptable dogs,” Steven Tears, director of the Montgomery Humane Society.
Handouts will be available during the event, along with free plushies for a limited time (first come, first served).
According to the Montgomery Humane Society’s 2024 Shelter Animals Count report, more than 5,000 animals were cared for last year, with adoption and foster programs helping to place many into loving homes. Nationwide, more than five million companion animals enter shelters annually, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
