CLASS Spring 2025 FILM Series
The Unholy Three
Come join the CLASS Film Series for the silent film showing of The Unholy Three on Wednesday, March 5 in Goodwyn 110 at Noon. Associate Professor of English Robert Klevay will do a short introduction to the film. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
This horror comedy shows what happens when three carnival sideshow performers decide that they can make more money as criminals. Of course, the first step is opening a pet shop! The film was later remade as a “talkie” in 1930, also with Chaney, but this is the better silent version from 100 years ago.
The film’s director, Tod Browning, went on to direct the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula (1931) and the similarly sideshow themed, Freaks (1932). Browning himself also worked in a carnival sideshow before his career in film.
Dr. Klevay said, “If anyone wants to offer extra credit to students for going, I’ll be keeping a roster since I’ll be offering extra credit for my own students this term. I’ll be happy to share it with you after the screening!”
