AUM welcomes John Robertson as head women’s soccer coach

AUM welcomes John Robertson as the new head coach of women’s soccer after most recently serving at the University of Texas.

“AUM has a tradition of hard work, honesty, education, and making a difference in the local community by providing opportunities for people to better themselves and change the course of their lives,” Robertson said. “It’s my goal to bring those values to life, help prepare strong young women for the real world and get this soccer program back to winning ways.”

Robertson arrives in Montgomery with experience at many levels of collegiate soccer. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach with the Texas women’s soccer program for the past two seasons, helping guide the Longhorns through their inaugural year in the Southeastern Conference. During the 2024 season, Texas captured the SEC Championship, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and earned a national ranking as high as fifth, finishing the year ranked 17th.

“We are excited to welcome John to AUM as the next head coach of our women’s soccer program,” Director of Athletics Erik Maas said. “Coach Robertson has competed and coached at the highest levels of collegiate soccer and brings a proven track record of developing elite talent and building successful programs. His experience in championship environments and his commitment to the development of student-athletes make him an outstanding fit for AUM.”

While at Texas, Robertson played a key role in developing elite talent, coaching 10 graduating seniors who signed professional contracts, along with 13 youth and senior national team players representing the United States, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. He also coached five SEC All-Conference selections, two SEC Freshman of the Year award winners, and Top Drawer National Player of the Year and All-American Lexi Missimo, a Mac Herman Trophy semifinalist. In addition, Robertson helped secure a Top-20 nationally ranked recruiting class.

Robertson began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of Montevallo, where he helped lead the Falcons to the 2019 Gulf South Conference Championship, a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and both conference and regional coaching staff of the year honors.
