AUM giving opportunities support students, local community

From a sneaker drive to scholarships and food donations, AUM students, faculty and staff can make a meaningful impact in the community and support student success throughout December.

Ways to contribute include supporting AUM Athletics’ Sneaker Drive, AUM’s United Way Campaign, student scholarships and helping to stock the AUM Food Pantry.

How to get involved:

  • AUM Athletics Sneaker Drive: AUM Athletics and the YMCA will host a community Sneaker Drive during the Warhawks men’s basketball game against Shorter University on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the AUM Athletics Complex. Donate a new or gently used pair of sneakers to support local youth through the YMCA. As a thank you, donors will receive free popcorn during the game.
  • River Region United Way: AUM’s employee campaign for River Region United Way will end on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Employees can return printed pledge forms to Paige Hines in Library 211 or make a gift online by visiting the River Region United Way website. Remember to designate Auburn University at Montgomery as your employer when making a gift.
  • AUM Scholarships: Our students continue to rely on financial assistance to reach graduation. To help, make a tax-deductible gift to AUM Scholarships today.  If you’d prefer to support a different area, email [email protected].
  • University Honors Program Food Pantry: Donate any non-perishable food, hygiene, or school supply items to the UHP Food Pantry or contribute via the food pantry’s Amazon Wish ListMonetary donations to the UHP Food Pantry are also welcome.

Each opportunity helps create meaningful support for current and future AUM students while giving back to the broader community.

Celebrate the semester at Professors-N-Pajamas

AUM traditions like Professors-N-Pajamas help students succeed at every step of their college journey.

Hosted by Housing and Residence Life, the pre-finals event gives students a chance to take a break and enjoy fun downtime with food, games and tutoring. Professors-N-Pajamas for the Fall 2025 semester will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Taylor Center 221–223 and 230.

The event will feature free breakfast items, games, a live DJ, tutoring and opportunities to win prizes, including a housing scholarship.

‘Common Thread’ seeking submissions for 2026 issue

The Common Thread, AUM’s student-run literary and creative arts magazine, is accepting submissions from students, faculty and staff for its 2026 issue. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 31, and entries should be emailed to [email protected].

This year’s editorial team aims to showcase the creativity and diverse voices of the AUM community. The 2026 issue will center on community, inviting contributors to create together, celebrate one another and explore how collaboration shapes who we are. The “common thread” unifying the issue will come directly from the voices of its contributors.

As a collaborative space, the magazine highlights local creativity, reflects on shared history and imagines a future grounded in resistance, change and collective growth.
