Charity Patricola
Master Teacher/Clinical Assistant Professor | College of Education
Charity Patricola is the Clinical Assistant Professor and Master Teacher for AUMTeach in the College of Education. She teach courses and supervise field experiences that prepare undergraduate STEM majors for a minor in STEM education. Her experience includes 17 years of teaching secondary science courses and facilitating after-school science programs within public, K-12 school systems.

Erin Reilly

Dr. Erin Reilly earned her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, 2001, Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Sociology/Sport Psychology. Her current research interests are the effects of neuromotor exercise on cognitive function in children and remediation programs.

Angela Russell

Dr. Angela Russell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and also serves as an advisor for the Outdoor Adventure Club and the Human Performance Research Group. Dr. Russell received her PhD in Human Performance from the University of Alabama and focuses her research on sport performance and body composition, including bone density and hydration status, in both general and special populations.

George Schaefer

Dr. George Schaefer is a professor and Chair for the Department of Kinesiology. Before coming to Auburn Montgomery, he worked within the business operations of a minor league baseball team and served in the public schools as a physical education teacher, coach and assistant athletic director. Dr. Schaefer’s research interests include risk and legal issues within sports and physical education as well as sport sales and marketing.

Kate Simmons
Professor | College of Education
Dr. Kate D. Simmons is a Professor of Special Education where she specializes in instructional strategies that enhance academic and behavioral outcomes for students with exceptionalities. With over five years of experience in public education, she has authored 19 peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters, and delivered over 71 presentations at various professional conferences while at AUM. Dr. Simmons has secured multiple grants, including for AUM’s Virtual Avatar Laboratory (VAL), has held chairs in the Special Education Programs Caucus (SSEPC) for over 11 years, and served on 66 committees inside and oustide of the university.

Derrick Smith
Dean | College of Education
Dr. Derrick Smith serves as a professor and Dean of the College of Education. He earned BS in Mathematics from Faulkner Unviersity, an M.A.Ed. in Special Education from UAB, and an Ed.D. in Special Education for Texas Tech University. Over this 25+ years in education, he has focused primarily on STEM education and research for students with visual impairments and blindness.
